Key date Canadian nickel - 1926 (near 6)

In 1926 there are two varieties; the 'near 6' and the 'far 6'. This refers to the location of the '6' in '1926' relative to the maple leaf. Near '6' is the more common of the two and can be identified by the fact that the '6' nearly touches the maple leaf. The Far '6' is much more scarce.

Even though this is the more common "near 6" variety, it is still a key date because the mintage is the 2nd lowest of this Georgian nickel series.

**mintage of only 938,162**

This coin is lightly circulated, in XF condition

What dose key date mean. I'm kinda new to collecting. Last 6 moths ago I started. I only until recently started collecting silver and copper by the ounce. I have paper money from places I've been. And new paper money from Listia in last month. That's why I ask about key date. I don't have a clue.

No problem, we were all new at one point!

Key date refers to a coin in a series that is more rare, valuable and usually harder to obtain than the others.

It may have to do with how many were minted or minting errors or varieties.

This particular coin is key because 1926 was the second lowest mintage date of this series, and also because there are two different varieties.

I hope you win, but I'm hoping it does quite a bit better than this.

I'm kinda surprised at the lack of interest. Maybe people on here aren't familiar with Canadian coins.

That could be a possibility. So far my bid is high enough to be just about anybody I think. But I'm going to get it
