Excellent story about a family on their way to California in hardship conditions, then being attacked by Apaches. I have several books about people abducted by Indians, and this is a good addition to my collection. There are some minor editing problems, but these don't detract from the readability of the book. There is some joy, much saddness, but also the underlying faith in God that allowed Olive Oatman to survive the ordeal. And for little Mary Ann to call on God's deliverance as she's dying of starvation, singing songs she learned in church as she passes on. And, for me, there is great anger at the father who, when other members of the wagon train decide to take a different route to the west, takes his wagon, with his wife and seven children on by themselves through rough country inhabited by hostile Indians. Too late for him self and most of his family he realizes his mistake. I could wring his neck! But there is also much respect for the brother, left for dead by the Apaches and later rescued, who spends years looking for his sisters
