Description

The listing, SALLY RAND Fan Dancer of the 20s and 30s Original Hand Signed Photo. has ended.

Up for auction is a neat piece of history!

This is an autographed picture of Sally Rand, looks like it's from the 30's. The front is a picture of her as a dancer, the back looks like an advertising card for a club.
It's in decent shape overall, not mint. There's a bit of spotting on the front and some discoloration on the back. You can see it in the photos clearly.

I don't guarantee that it is her signature, I don't have any other paperwork for it, but comparing it to others it looks spot-on.

SALLY RAND 1904-1979) was a burlesque dancer and actress, most noted for her ostrich feather fan dance and balloon bubble dance. In 1936, she purchased The Music Box burlesque hall in San Francisco, which would later become the Great American Music Hall .She starred in "Sally Rand's Nude Ranch" at the Golden Gate International Exposition in San Francisco in 1939 and 1940.

Sad to be letting this one go. Lucky winner, for sure. Take good care of her for me - make sure to give her a proper mat & frame job! xo

I found the following article highly interesting at sandman dot com:
When was it made?
You've found a great antique, and it has an old phone number on it.
You figure that if you can find out when 3 digit phone numbers were used, you'll know when the antique was made... Right?
NO!
Every Phone Company, different cities at the same Phone Company, and even different exchanges in the same city from the same Phone Company converted their Central Office (CO) equipment at different times.
They may have gone right from 2 digit numbers to 7 digit numbers, or they may have gone from 2 to 3, to 5, to 7 digit numbers over 50+ years. The only way to know is to find someone still alive in that specific city who has a really good memory, find some other documentation where you might be able to figure it out, or ask the Phone Company's historian.
The historian used to be the best option, except that most of the Phone Companies have closed their museums and fired their historians. The guys who run phone companies today (we're almost back to a monopoly) really don't care about the history of the phone business. Before they worked for the phone company they may have run a bakery or steel mill. They don't care about the phone business any more than they care about who picks up the garbage for the company.
Sorry, but it's going to be very difficult to find out when a particular city went to a particular type of dialing... without a time machine.
NOTE: Irwin Schuster from Tampa says that if you know the city and state that the phone number was located, and you have access to local newspaper files (and lots of spare time), the ads should tell you what year that item was made within a very small range.

It was in a 50 foot row of consignment auction stuff. In a box full of car parts, tools, and a cigar box that contained several old photos and Sally.

I'll probably save my bidding for Thur, but I will be back for sure!
Out of curiosity, how did this card come to be in your possession? I just think it is nice to hear how/where people find treasures like this. Thanks.

Did not mean to imply that the card was from then. I meant to emphasize the hay days of Sally Rand. When did 7 digit phone numbers get introduced?
thanks

This is about all I'm going to do for clarification.
She was a hot woman for the times... regardless 1935 or 1945.
She is going to the high bidder, you have doubts about this one ... then don't bid!
Nobody is forcing you to do so. Make up your own mind.
Cheers

Alright, since I can't change the current description. The autograph is not fake, or a print. The pen strokes go outside her figure and you can see the finish of the stroke in the brown area of the picture. The picture / card, whatever you want to call it, is in a protected plastic photo album page, that obviously has been cut out of the album just for that card as it is only half of a full page. THE DATING of the card is the issue here. I thought it was from the thirties, but the 7 digit numbering as mentioned above MIGHT have been used up until 1947 when the 10 digit numbering was introduced.
Whoever the lucky winner is, you are getting a genuine article. The time of signature is undetermined at this time.
