The listing, High Value Old British Postage Square has ended.

Old British high denomination postal square from postage paid envelope for two pounds five shillings (over $5 in US money) from pre 1960's conversion to decimal system. The square is not cancelled but has old English letters apparently typed in upper left hand corner (see picture).

2 Pounds 5 Shillings was a lot of money back in those times.
The commercial establishment buying these LARGE "mailing envelopes"
FOR OFFICE USE would routinely mark them with their monograms to
prevent ( or, try to prevent L-0-L ) pilferage.
The process might be visualized as similar to "perforation on stamps"
or closer home ( i mean, USA ) to "pre-cancel of stamps by USPS* "

* By the way, was it USPS back in the last century ?
I never got around to studying THIS aspect although my USA album should
already be the cause of considerable envy, thanks to benefactors like YOU.
