Description

The listing, The Bad Beginning (A Series of Unfortunate Events #1) Hardcover **STARTING BID/GIN LOWERED has ended.

The Bad Beginning was the opposite of bad. It was an awesome story. It all started at Count Olaf’s house. Count Olaf, a villain, is an uncle in the story and becomes the guardian of the Baudelaire children. The children include Violet the oldest, Klaus the middle child, and Sunny the youngest. They are orphans until they find themselves in the care of the Count. This should be a happy solution but it is not.
The Count is an extremely awful person who tortures the children. He is trying to swindle their fortune from them. This book is one of many in The Series of Unfortunate Events but in each the Count tries a scheme to get the fortune. In the first book, The Bad Beginning, Count Olaf tries to marry Violet. To accomplish this the Count has to lock Sunny up as a hostage to convince Violet to marry him. In the end Violet tricked the Count by signing the marriage document with her left hand making it invalid. With his plan being discovered the Count makes his escape and vows to get the fortune no matter what. The Baudelaires are safe at least for the time being.
The best thing about this book is the characters. Sonny was especially my favorite because she bites people all the time. I also enjoyed it because it was not only full of excitement but had some mystery in it too. For example in the house the author did a great job especially when he described the pictures of eyes being everywhere to match the one on Count Olaf’s ankle. Lastly I thought that the best part was when they discover the eye on Count Olaf’s ankle. I could not put the book down and immediately started on the second.
