Fishing Float in Wooden Box
This may be vintage--not really sure
Since on the base is marked Aug. 11, 91 It may be 1891.
1 3/4" on base--1 1/4" high
There is something jiggly in side
Also some directions on a piece of aging paper inside box
Would be a great gift for the fisherman in your life!!

Are you sure this is a fishing float? You make a statement about what it says on the base, and about directions but neglected to take a pic of either?

Ok I will add more pictures. And, I am going on what it says on the bottom of the box, I am not a fisherman so then if this is not a float, I do not know what it is. Thanks for asking.

I am not home right now to see if it floats but it looks totally like it would. I am also not sure what it is made from, It looks like a brass, but I am not sure, can find nothing like it to compare to. Thanks for asking.

Mr. Lawson C. Cummins is well known for his work with telescopes and various lenses. He is indeed from Montpelier, Vermont and was quite famous in the 1890s. He was also known for alarm devises. I am wondering if this might be a 'fish alarm' of some type. I just Google'd him but didn't spend much time at it. Good fortune to all interested parties.
