Description

The listing, "BEAUTIFUL 10K MADEIRA CITRINE & DIAMOND NECKLACE has ended.

This beautiful necklace features 2 pear shape stones set in the bail and an approx 7X5mm oval stone surrounded by 6 round cut diamonds, the chain is 20 inches long, the pendant is a tad over 1 inch long. Both chain and pendant are marked 10k, tried to get pics of marks.
The name citrine is derived from old French "citron," meaning lemon or citrus. As you might expect, natural-color citrine is yellowish and ranges from pale yellow to gold to an amber brownish-yellow.
There also are reddish orangey citrines. Those that are reportedly natural in color come mainly from Brazil. Natural or heated, they are called "Madeira" for their similarity in color to Portuguese Madeira wine. (Note: For wine aficionados, having a natural-color Madeira citrine would be an interesting twist on nomenclature, since Madeira wine—and hence its color—was created quite by accident … through heat treatment.) Madeira citrines range from yellowish-orange to orangey-red. Today, most Madeiras—which generally are heat treated—will have more of a dark orangey color, possibly with a touch of brown. The more pure the hue toward red, the more rare and valuable the gem.My rules:

I love citrine. Did you know Citrine before becoming Citrine is amethyst before the earth heats it or is done by man? I love gems. Amethyst is my favorite stone with Citrine a close second. Its one of the few stones that does not store Negative energy. Watched and fanned

Actually citrine occurs naturally, it gets its color from trace amounts of Fe3+(iron) the 3+ refers to its oxidation state, 2 and 3 are most common, it is what gives citrine its natural color, it is why you can find ametrine in nature, part amethyst and citrine growing within the same geode, however natural citrine is a rare occurance, both amethyst and citrine are part of the quartz family which is the most abbundant gemstone material on earth, feldspar is a close second.

I thought I would add this from my gemology text book:
Citrine is a beautiful gemstone. While it is made from quartz (the most common type of mineral), it is quite rare in its natural form. Citrine has a beautiful yellow color which can vary from a light or pale yellow, to a yellowish orange to having other colors present such as a red or brown tinge.

Citrine gets its wonderful hues from the small particles of iron trapped in this quartz mineral. In fact, Citrine usually has only about 40 parts per million particles of iron. The oxidation of this iron is what gives the Citrine its yellow or yellow orange color. It should be noted that Citrine is associated with Amethyst. It is in fact the substance, except it has a different oxidation state of the iron present. This means that you can easily heat up Amethyst to create Citrine. Since Amethyst is found more readily than Citrine, the commercial Citrine you purchase is usually Amethyst that has been specially treated.

Citrine is a hard mineral and usually has a harness of 7 on Mohs’s hardness scale; this makes it a great stone to use for jewelry. Citrine can be found on many ornamental jewelry pieces including rings, earrings, charms, bracelets, etc. It can be cut easily and has a vitreous luster. It should also be noted that it is transparent or translucent giving it a nice glassy quality. Citrine is one of the more affordable gemstones and can come in many sizes
