LUNARIA ANNUA ~ MONEY PLANT
Believing the round silver disk to be a lucky charm; this unique plant originally hailing from the Balkans, has charmed American gardens almost since the first settlers arrived!
Known around the world under a variety of names, most countries reference the silver disk as either a glittering moon, which these disk reflect in moon gardens, or the silver of coins, gaining it the widespread nickname, money plant.
During Spring and Summer: Lunaria Annua grows to 3' feet and produces beautiful violet flowers, highlighted in a backdrop of large deep-green serrated leaves. This elegant display is followed by the appearance of translucent seed filled disk, which will remain in the garden for most of the winter.
Great for Growing Indoors. (this plant absorbs formaldehyde from cigarette smoke and leather furniture.) Dried flower arrangements. Wildflower gardens. Moon Gardens.
Excellent Gift Idea! Fun for Kids First Grow!!
How To Grow: Sprinkle light soil over seeds in a shady area early Spring (or Late Fall) when it's still cool outside. The first season you will get violet flowers. The following season your good luck money will appear! Dispelling the ancient myth "Money doesn't grow on trees!"
ZONES: Perennial 6-9. Re-seeding annual everywhere else.
To keep from reseeding, remove disk, let dry and use in a holiday arrangement, make "good luck" cards with a few pods and glue, or, you could give some seeds to a beloved gardener and make their day!
Seeds are packaged in protective glassine bags. Color Photo and Germination information on package
