These I only used a few times, Most were used That i bought on ebay, But they are all in good condition. ONe has staining which I showed in the pictures but you should be able to get out with some TLC and Sun!! Comes with one Insert for the first two Diapers. They are one size other then the thirsty (the orange one) they should fit up to potty training.

Most of them have the adjustable snaps to size, but since they are all different kinds of diapers they all do not have a size/snaps The good Momma one is a larger diaper would fit a "thicker" baby. The Thirsty (orange) is a size two 9-36 Months 18-40 Lbs is what it says on the tag.

do they need the inserts or are they for extra protection?

They are all different types of cloth. Some have Liners that you snap in. (I only have one for the two diapers) Others you need liners to go in the pocket to soak up.
