Carolina elephant’s foot (Elephantopus carolinianus) seeds: Winner will receive 30+ seeds.
This member of the aster family is native to the United States. A perennial that self-seeds and thrives in zones 4 to 9. It has a height of 2-3 feet and a spread of 2-3 feet. It flowers from late summer into early fall and is a low maintenance plant tolerant of drought that likes full sun to part shade.
Its large lower leaves provide the inspiration for the common name of Elephant's foot. Odd name for a plant with unusually delicate, tiny purple flowers and interesting triangular-shaped seed heads.
Perhaps best grown in native plant gardens, meadows and woodland gardens. Marginal ornamental attributes for perennial borders. Large lower leaves can form a nice ground cover if plants are massed.
