Black Eyed Susans are the most common wildflower in America are very easy to grow. I love these and last year decorated a chocolate cake for a monthly church birthday party. The center brown with the chocolate was beautiful. Needless to say I was elected to bake the monthly cake !
Prepare the plot for the Black Eyed Susans. These flowers can grow just about anywhere, in any type of soil, but they do best in full sun. . Most of these wildflowers grow about 12-24 inches tall.
Scatter the seeds on top of the soil and water them.
Once the seedlings are up, thin them to 1 to 1 1/2 feet apart. Black eyed Susans grown from seed take about 100 to 120 days to mature. This flower needs a long growing season, so plant them early for flowers in the first year.
They return every year with more spread and flowers. In the spring you can take a spade or shovel and dig up a clump including the roots and plant them elsewhere. Always dependable.
