Does this phone have to be 'flashed' before being used with a Cricket pre-pay situation? Im sorry but I want to be sure that if I win this phone it is for my son and I understand that it costs a bit to 'flash' a phone if that is required to use this for Cricket pre-paid services. I have read the other comments and questions but I want to be exactly sure and 100% positive that I can just go get a pre-paid thing and he is good to roll! This was a sprint phone and platinumtel uses the sprint network so yes, there is nothing hardware wise that you prevent this phone from getting data and voice service.

There are basically two types of technologies. GSM (att, nextel etc) which is widely popular in europe and cdma (verizon, sprint, metro, cricket) This exact metro phone is sold for cricket which you can see in this article.
