Description

The listing, Original Marine Band Harmonica has ended.

This is an original Harmonica made by M. Hohner and this one is No. 1896. Still in its original box, yes it is used but has not been used for years. This use to belong to my father, but he has passed away and I inherited it. I have too much stuff and since I have no idea how to nor the inclination to learn to play, I thought that I would post it here. Shipping costs $6.00 via paypal.

Do you know what year it was bought? I know they went to a plastic case in the late 80's.. and yours does not seem to be plastic.

After WWII they started putting 1896 directly under the word Germany, instead of off to the left, so yours is def. after WWII.

Does the box have an address of Hicksville NY? If so, that dates it to some time after 1960 (Hohner US being based at Hicksville from 1960 to 1982). Up until the mid 1970s, the Marine Band was not officially distributed outside of the US, but upon being given worldwide distribution, the US address was removed from the lower label and the purchaser was advised "Ask your dealer or Hohner distributor".

Thank you. Nice auction!

This does not say anything about asking the dealer for anything. The only thing it says about the dealer is that if they are out of booklets to let Hohner Inc know and they will provide them with a fresh supply as well as one for yourself.
thank you.

Does the back of the box say.. to learn blah blah blah.. ask your Hohner distributor or does it say write to.. .Hicksville, N.Y.? Thanks. I can estimate the date with that info.

I will post another picture with that information for you. Can you tell me what your estimated date is too?

Since the harmonica doesn't say to contact a local distributor, that means they were still selling them officially overseas when yours was made.. that means it is old! Very nice! The box looks like it is in good condition too!

it is still like new condition. I have taken care of it over the years since my father passed it down to me.

I meant to say on my last post that I believe your harmonica was made after 60 and before the mid 70's... Very nice listing!
