Description
The listing, medallic art co. .999 pure silver, 1965 Douglas Macarthur tribute....very rare has ended.
More medallion than coin, very high relief of Macarthur, it is numbered 1089, weighs .8931 of an ounce. I have looked through all the pictorial information on medallic art co. in N.Y. (yep, still in business) and haven't found it. I do believe it to be extremely rare but.....?
Questions & Comments
In short answer, it is .999 fine, that is on the rim but in such small lettering that I (my eyes are already bad at 50) have to look at it under a magnifying glass with a loop, second, the reverse is the seal of the great state of Arkansas. I don't believe that you can add a picture after bidding has started, never tried, the .999 fine silver and the Medallic art co. N.Y. are on the rim in such fine engraving you will have to take my word for it, I don't own a camera that could take a picture of something that tiny. If you were to get this and were not happy or it did not read as I have stated I would expect you to get your points back, gladly, and let EVERYONE on the site know that my word is not good......but that's not going to happen, never has happened, never will, I hope we are clear, yes ???
To answer the question about marking, my mistake not to have included reverse side which by the way isn't where you'll find the answer. I had to work at it myself....on the rim , you have to use a loop or mag. glass for young folks with eyes better than mine . at exactly the twelve o'clock position you will find both the silver mark and the medallic art co name, at roughly 6 o'clock I believe you will find the numeration. finally on the back is a tribute to his home state Arkansas with its state crest..whew......oh and thanks guys its good to be back for awhile
Nice piece! I'll be bidding for sure. My great grandfather was MacArthurs's physician during the war and I was fortunate enough to inherit one of the 5 star sterling silver collar insignias MacArthur wore. I was also unfortunate enough to have the same insignia stolen from me. C'est la vie...
To 84eagles......I am not sure how fortunate that was hmmm, well as you said such is life. I do like this piece, it is very high relief, I think it is so cool when the focal point almost jumps off the piece at you, and this does. Good luck EAGLE, Charles105
