"Tomorrow Today" is singer Al Jarreau's first complete studio album in six years. "The real challenge with this album was that I wanted listeners to feel comfortable with what they've come to expect, but surprise them with a little something they may not have thought about," says Jarreau. "That's what they get when they come to my concerts, so why not on an album?" The need for some of what listeners have come to expect is satisfied by Jarreau's smooth pop-R&B-influenced vocals, jazzy vocalese, and fun-loving spirit. Some of the surprises come from the new setting, courtesy of producer Paul Brown, and from Jarreau's new sidemen: singer Vanessa Williams, trumpeter Rick Braun, and saxophonist Boney James.
