The listing, 1880s ANTIQUE TIN TOBACCO TAG has ended.
These were first manufactured right after the Civil War, and were attached to plugs or twists of tobacco as early branding. People began collecting them in the 1880s, and tobacco companies soon offered a small selection of household items in exchange for them. By the 1910s, thousands of items could be "bought" with them. Tins remained popular until the 1920s, when packes of pre-wrapped cigerettes replaced loose tobacco and plugs.this is 1 1/2 x 1 inches
