Questions & Comments
You say that these are "garden" huckleberries. Have you grown these yourself? How do they grow? Do they spread? Are they invasive or can they be trained like blackberries? Are they a vine or a bush?
They are more of a bush about the size of a tomato plant. Not considered invasive. We used to grow these when I was a kid. A friend of mine gave me a package of the seeds and there are way too many for just me. They like part sun/part shade. You get a crop first year. Dependent on soil and whether you fertilize them (fertilize the same as peppers or tomatoes) is how good first year crop will be. They are ripe when they turn a dull black. Are meant to be cooked.
Garden huckleberry has been adapted to grow at lower altitude. The wild huckleberries only flower at higher elevation. Down in the valley they will spread from roots instead of flowering.
