The listing, 1968 Topps #75 GALE SAYERS (Bears) EX-MT Free Tracking has ended.
Sayers career was both brief and huge. As a rookie, he scored a then-NFL record 22 touchdowns and accumulated over 2200 all purpose yards. A year later, he led all NFL running backs in yardage and set an NFL record with 2440 all-purpose yards. He was leading the league in rushing again in 1968 when he was felled by an injury, but led the league again in 1969. A 1970 injury essentially ended his career, with Sayers only appearing in 4 games in 1970 and 1971, but his mark had been indelible. He won a Rookie of the Year Award, 2 rushing titles, and 3 Pro Bowl MVP Awards. To this day he remains one of the NFL's most popular players, as is reflected in his card prices.
