Fuel Japan - The battle for the capital city of Kyo rages as warring political factions vie for power against hereditary rulers. After the murder of her parents at the hands of her say dishes uncle, a young girl named Kintoki flees to the mountains to lead a harsh life. Renamed Kai Doh Maru, she is rescued by the Captain of the Guard, and grows up under his tutelage. Now she's 17, and finds herself once more drawn into the same politics that ended her parents. And it doesn't help having a brand new set of emotions that keep taking her by surprise.

Set in Japan's Heian era.
