How about giving these a try. These are a very old "fruit" native to Mexico and Central America. Thought to be pre-columbian, they have been used as part of the normal daily diet for centuries by the Native American peoples. These little "melons" have a unique flavor not unlike that of a cucumber but with a hint of lime or a tinge of sourness. Mouse melons are terrific in stir-fries; they can be pickled just like French gherkins, eaten raw in salads or put up like Polish dill pickles. They also can be chopped and added to salsas for extra texture and flavor.
