Description

The listing, DIANTHUS, CHINESE PINKS, 25 SEEDS, PERENNIAL has ended.

Dianthus flowers are used in a lot of home gardens. They grow quickly from seed and are simple to grow.
. Start the seeds in the early spring about 6 weeks before the last frost in your area. Fill pots or flats, trays, etc with potting soil. Water well. Place 2 seeds per pot.
Cover with 1/4" soil and mist. Cover with plastic wrap or baggies. Remove in 7-10 days when the plants start to sprout.
Water the seedlings every few days so that the soil stays moist. Add 1 tsp. of general liquid plant fertilizer to a gallon of water and fertilize the seedlings once a week after they are about 10 days old.
Transplant the dianthus seedlings outside in the spring, keeping the soil around their roots by sliding a spoon under them and lifting them from the container.
Set the seedlings into holes deep enough to hold the roots and keep the plant at the same planting depth. Gently press the soil so that it is firm around the stem and continue the watering and fertilizing schedule.
Remove the dead blooms to encourage growth, more flowers and spreading. They are also beautiful growing in pots for your deck, porch or patio. Save the dead flowers and dry and you will have more seeds to plant in other places and to share. I live in zone 7 and never cover mine in the winter. They come back just as beautiful every year. Zones 3-5 I would probably cover with leaves through the winter and remove in March or after your last hard frost date. You will probably find they are already up.
Thankds for your intrest in my auction and please email with any questions. I mail the next day after win.
