you will see in the 3rd picture that there is a plastic guard inside the crown which keeps it from running or wasting the battery life.

**note: we have had this watch for almost 2 months but have never worn it nor have we taken this plastic guard off so i do not know if the watch will need a battery or not - sorry!**

You bet! Thanks. Fanned back. :-) As far as the brand... it's one I've never heard of. It says "MC" on the face of the watch. Actually a BIGGER "M" on top of a smaller "C". I don't know what it means for sure. I believe you can see that in the picture there - to see what I mean. Other than that I don't know. I assume that's the brand...??
