The listing, 1908 Comic / Risqué ANTIQUE POSTCARD Parrot on Nellie's Hat #1 has ended.
Up for bid is a vintage comic postcard in excellent condition for a card 110 years old!
There were a series of "Nellie's Hat" postcards, and while this one is unposted, they are copyright dated 1908, by A.Q. Southwick, N.Y. This one has the "saucy little bird", which appears to be a parrot.
At this time, high fashion hats were adorned with bird feathers, and sometimes the entire bird! So many birds were killed, not only for their meat, but for their feathers, it lead to the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (too late to save the passenger pigeon which became extinct in 1914).
I found that information while researching these cards, and found it so interesting! There are old photos with ladies wearing hats with several birds attached!
Anyhow, this is a wonderful card with great colors! See my auctions for a different Nellie's Hat card. Smoke-free home.
