The listing, Garnet Nugget Beads .... 60+ beads! * Doubles @ 400 * has ended.

Winner gets a bag of at least 60 (more than shown in the photos) of these delightful genuine tumbled garnet nuggets ... and TWO bags if bidding goes above 400 credits!

I had some of these two months ago, but the ones I have listed this week I took off a bracelet I won on Listia. I cleaned them first so they are beautiful and ready to use in a new creation!

FREE US Shipping!

I usually list a few new items each evening, all ending on Sundays and Mondays. Please watch my upcoming listings at http://www.listia.com/profile/auctions/28303!

WARNING to bidders ... last weekend at least THREE bidders told me they tried to place bids in the last minute that never registered. If you want something PLEASE place your bid at LEAST five minutes before the auction end. At night, when lots of auctions are ending, Listia's servers get overwhelmed and slow down. If you want something, bid in advance PLEASE!

I don't know why...but I'm obsessed with garnet right now...I found a little garnet on the riverbank at hubby's parents farm a couple weeks ago and now I can't stop looking!

That's pretty cool ... it must be hard to identify stone that you pick up on the ground. When we were kids we went to Cape May in the summers and always tried to find Cape May diamonds! Never found any that I know of though ... "(

Diamonds are actually why we started digging around on the ground in the first place...We went to Crater of Diamonds, AK this last December (didn't find anything) but when we were walking the dog out on the farm something caught our eye in the gravely river bank...(still undetermined as to what it is...seems pretty far fetched that it'd be a diamond...) anyway we spent a few sunny days down there digging around looking for more (we enjoy rocks & digging in the dirt!) and that is how I found the garnet...just caught my eye!

How could you possibly tell it is a garnet? Just curious ... are garnets known to be in that area? Most gemstones are only found in certain places. I think lapidary would be a really fascinating hobby ... are you into that?

Well, I'll tell ya now that I'm no expert! But I've always been into nature, rocks, biology, the natural world etc. and just recently have been studying geology more in depth. I don't know this for sure, but I'm coming to the conclusion through research that gemstones are not always only found in one location, like we usually believe. It was only 10 years ago that they started mining diamonds in Canada, and now geologists are studying Northern Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan for possible diamond deposits! Of course diamond/gemstone miners wouldn't want the general public to know that diamonds or any gemstone could possibly be anywhere...(in my opinion) because that would probably bring down the value a little, ya know? Millions of years ago all the continents were connected...and millions of years ago the world was probably a very different place...volcanoes everywhere, then glaciers...very unstable...who knows what's under us?
Anyway, my best guess is what I found is a garnet judging by the color, it is so small and rough, but the color is just beautiful, like these beads your auctioning off. We have a gem tester, too, and it has indicated garnet, I just don't take that to be 100% proof because it's hard to test on such a small, rough specimen like the one I have...it does excite me, though, to find something pretty like that...I want to find more! But who knows...could be the only one in the area, just a freak occurence...who knows :)

Oh, I'd love to have a gem tester, how much do they cost? I've got all sorts of stuff that I really don't know what it is, would be great to know particularly when I win those mystery Listia jewelry auctions!

This auction is doing great.... too high for me, though. Is this all the garnet that you have?

I have one more garnet necklace that I won on Listia a few weeks ago. I should probably list it. Feel badly for the seller, she actually made the necklace but I bought it for the beads. I'll go ahead and list it sometime this week.

Gem testers are kinda spendy...but I suppose it's worth it to know if you have real gems or not! I read that people like to take them to antique stores or estate sales. Models vary and cost anywhere from $80 to upwards of around $400! Ours was $180...a spontaneous splurge on my husband's part :)
