Agave attenuata is an unusual variety highly prized by landscapers. Part sun/some shade, drought tolerant. Beautiful lime-green leaves with stems arching to 4 feet. A fabulous plant, easy to grow from seeds. Thornless.

No--There are many types of agave. This one is not used for food.. or tequila, lol. Thanks for the question! :)

Do you cut off the bloom before it dies or after. to preserve the plant???

The main plant will die after it blooms, spreading seed, and with pups around the base. Cutting off the bloom does not stop this. Such is the life of an agave. They only bloom every 10 to 15 years.

ll this plant grow in south dakota or can it be grown as a houseplant?

This is a large plant. I would not recommend it as a houseplant. Agaves like warm sunny weather, but this one needs shelter from triple-digit heat here in the desert.
Recommended for zones 9b thru 11.
