Here is a button from the NINETTE SANATORIUM. This is for all those history folks or people who would like to get a piece of history for that person.
Sanatoriums were to house & care for all living with tuberculosis (TB). At that time, effective treatments were't available to treat TB. Patients were isolated from the general public & prescribed rest & good nutrition. The Ninette Sanatorium opened in May 1909 Ninette now the RM of Prairie Lakes. The first patient was admitted on 24 May 1910. It grew into the largest sanatorium in the province, with a dozen buildings. With advances in medicine, the sanatorium was eventually not required. It closed in 1972, which for a time after it functioned as a retirement home. From 1973 to 2000, it was the Pelican Lake Training Center. It provided training & accommodations to intellectually disabled people. Only some of the buildings were used during this period many were torn down. They are now vacant. There are several monuments on the former Sanatorium site.
