The United States is honoring our nation's presidents by issuing $1 circulating coins featuring their images in the order that they served. John Tyler served as a Virginia state delegate and governor, U.S. representative, U.S. senator and vice president for one month under William Henry Harrison. He became the first vice president to take office upon the death of the sitting president. At the time, the U.S. Constitution was not clear on succession; however, John Tyler set an important precedent by assuming all duties and powers of al elected president.
