Thanks fanned you too, they have metric measurements on them the biggest hook is 8.0 mm which if i;m not mistaken is a size L hook.

these ar crochet hooks by looking at them, but you mention knitting, a little confused, are there knitting needles as well as crochet hooks? wonderful bargain either way, looks like a nice set. No letters on them?

They are crochet hooks, there are no letters on them, just the metric measurement.
