Questions & Comments
Leslee, . . . . Thanks for the species name. I'll have to grow 'em as an annual here in Mass (zone 6), but no problemo. Fanned you & watching.
. . . No. In fact, a good blanket of early snow that lasted throughout the winter would insulate the plant from the much colder temps and probably allow it to survive. . . . This particular species of Milkweed is tropical or sub-tropical & is hardy from USDA zones 8 through 11. The minimum winter temp in zone 8 runs 10 to 20 degrees. . . . Depending on where you live in Orange, you are in zone 9 (20 to 30) or 10 (30 to 40). It is highly doubtful you will ever see a temp below 10 degrees. . . . Meanwhile I live in USDA zone 6 where minimum temps range from -10 all the way up to 0, a definite killer for this Milkweed. . . . If I do win one of your Milkweed auctions I will of course experiment with winter protection - after, of course, saving beaucoup seeds just in case.
. . . Take care. Be well. . . . . . . . Joe . . . . . . . joesbugs@yahoo.com
decided to throw in the pincushion seeds no matter what! you have to attract the butterflies so they lay the eggs on the milkweed-seriously, they will devour an entire plant!
