Description

The listing, Pride of Barbados Seeds - 10 seeds has ended.

This listing is for 10 (ten) Pride of Barbados ornamental Caesalpinia Pulcherrima seeds. This variety is most commonly known as Pride of Barbados or Mexican Red Bird of Paradise (not to be confused with Strelitzia (which is often referred to as "Bird of Paradise" and includes a genus of five species of perennial plants, native to South Africa).
This variety, the Caesalpinia pulcherrima, has brilliant orange-yellow flowers and is a little bushier than Caesalpinia Gillesii, which is most commonly known as Yellow Bird of Paradise because it has all yellow flowers.
These plants are absolutely stunning, with wild colors they make excellent deer-resistant statement pieces for your garden! Very easy to grow, they are sure to please! Can be planted in the ground or container-grown in colder climates to protect from freezing.
Questions & Comments
Original
Hello! It takes at least 2 years from what I've read. I have some younger seedlings that aren't at that stage yet and they are happy plants but have not started blooming. From what I've seen it takes about a year for one-gallon size Pride of Barbados to bloom, so the planting medium you use to grow them, the location you pick and the amount of water they get are all factors in thei rinitial growth. Plants with a bit of afternoon shade usually bloom several weeks later than the ones with 8-10 hours sun that are the same age. They will continue to bloom for eight weeks or more and they are SO pretty!
