yeah, I think these are a bit rarer. It's the scph-1080, which, I believe, replaced the original scph-1010(?) digital controller and were made for shorter period of time (due to the introduction of the dual analog controller).
Which reminds me (thanks) this is digital only, the other choice is dual analog (model scph-110).
I think that controller is the standard controller... Sometimes they are in different colors... Than again the colors fade over time... It might just be a regular controller. Looked it up, I wish its rare but its not...
Where exactly do you look things up??? They have different model numbers, which is in my original post.
So yeah, it's the standard controller (the improved second version). It has a longer cord and is white (and no, it's not faded, if it were it wouldn't be a uniform color). The first is more gray (see new pic, which I just googled).
From the wiki: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_Controller) ... "The original version (model SCPH-1010) was released alongside the PlayStation on December 3, 1994" ... (some suggest this was a Japan release only, but what I think they mean is that it was made in Japan, while the white one was made in China).
..."On April 2, 1996, Sony released a revised version of the PlayStation Controller (model SCPH-1080), featuring a longer cord with a ferrite bead. After briefly selling the Dual Analog Controller in 1997, Sony began phasing out the PlayStation Controller later that year with the introduction of the DualShock controller, which would become the new standard controller for the PlayStation."
And "rare" is not quite the same thing as "a bit rarer" (as in, what I actually said), "a bit" actually just means a small amount, so if we go back to the context of what I said, yes, it is a bit rarer.
Great auction! How do you define mint? Would it be brand new condition without the packaging? I'm just asking because many people say mint when in reality the item is in poor condition. I am sure you are right just checking.
Yeah, that's how I'd define mint, just note that I said "near mint", which is a step below mint; so this is used, but in very good condition with little or no markings, scratches, etc.
Yeah I have 3-4 ps1's as well, but I like the "slim" white ones as there look better and are a little tougher to find. Anyway, I thought it'd make a good auction. I do have another mega man 8, but not in the same condition as this one, I may list it at some point.
