The listing, 1953 National Guard Print Block has ended.
The Department issued a 3-cent National Guard commemorative stamp through the Washington, DC, post office on February 23, 1953.
The stamp's central design depicts a national guardsman ready for action. In the background scene to the left, the wartime activities of the US Army and Air National Guard are portrayed by an amphibious landing with air cover. The Guard's traditional peacetime role of protecting life and property in time of local disaster is shown in the background scene to the right. Across the top of the stamp appears the wording, "The National Guard of the US." Immediately below appear the words "In War," and to the right "In Peace." All appear in dark architectural Roman. In an ornamental ribbon across the bottom of the stamp is the wording, "The Oldest Military Organization in the US" in dark architectural Roman the word "Postage" and the denomination "3c" in whiteface Gothic.
This print block is in "New" condition and the glue is intact. It has been stored in a protective sleeve since its purchase in 1953.
