Questions & Comments
Original
Liberia was founded prior to the Civil War by Americans wanting to return slaves back to Africa. The capital of Liberia is Monrovia, named for President James Monroe. Prior to the Civil War, abolishionist movements in the North and South purchased land in Africa and many former slaves were returned to settle in this then new Africa nation. Today Liberia still uses the US dollar as it's currency.
