I have auctioned many of these four coin sets, 2013 & 2014 from each mint which marks the 50th anniversary of the Assassination (1963) and the 50TH anniversary of the 1st Kennedy half in (1964).
I am now offering one coin individually, and You get to Choose 2013P, 2014P .. No "D" mints are availble at this time
Prior to 1964 the half dollar was a widely used circulating coin. When the Kennedy Half replaced the Franklin half in 1964 they were quickly scooped up by people wanting a keepsake of that Historic event. The mint could not produce enough, for as soon as they were spent someone saved it. When the 1990’s came and the coin was more available it became clear that the American people did not want to carry large coins so the banks no longer ordered them from the Federal Reserve so the LAST Kennedy Half dollar was issued to banks in 2001.
The Mint today still mints a limited Quantity of the Kennedy roughly 2 Million at each mint. These coins are sold to collectors in Mint sets, Rolls & Bags, but not released into circulation.
This coin came from U.S. Mint sealed bags and packaged using latex gloves. They are more significant than 2002 through 2012 because these coins mark the 50th anniversary of the assassination and the issue of the 1st Kennedy half dollar.
Note: Some coins will have Minor scratches because they were shipped in BAGS.
The Coin YOU CHOOSE will be packaged and look the same as the one pictured.
