The listing, 65+ Seeds of Velvet Leaf Mallow has ended.
This naturalized annual was introduced from India. Can grow up to 7 ft. tall, with thick stems and heart-shaped leaves up to 6 inches across, all parts of this plant are velvety-hairy. The yellow to orange flowers are about 1 inch across. The fruit is a flat-topped capsule, about 1 inch across. It is first green, then turns black and holds many black seeds . The velvety leaves, yellow to orange flowers and flat-topped fruit are distinctive identifying features The stems yield a strong fiber used in making twine and rugs in India and China. The unripe seeds are edible raw, tasting similar to sunflower seeds. Where the plant is native its seeds are a common outdoor snack of children. They should be eaten before they turn black & dry, because then they become bitter. I plant mine with my Morning Glory plants as the petite flowers make a nice accent to the Morning Glories & the strong, sturdy stems will allow the Morning Glory plant a place to climb, without choking it out. The dried seed pods are pretty & unique in dried arrangements. This is for 65+ seeds & your plants will make more seeds for eating or replanting.
