Almonte attended Christopher Columbus High School in
Miami, Florida and was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels
of Anaheim in the 17th round of the 2012 Major League
Baseball Draft. He made his professional debut with the
Arizona League Angels. He pitched 2013 with the Orem
Owlz and 2014 with the Arizona League Angels and the
Burlington Bees.
Prior to the 2015 season, Almonte was acquired by the
Chicago White Sox as the player to be named later from
earlier trade for Gordon Beckham. On November 24, 2015,
Almonte was traded to the Colorado Rockies for Tommy
Kahnle. He spent the 2016 season with the Modesto Nuts
and Hartford Yard Goats. The Rockies added him to their
40-man roster after the season.
