The film, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, surrounds the development of a new, experimental drug given to chimpanzees. This drug induces human-like emotions and increased intelligence in the animals. The drug's creator, Will Rodman (James Franco), takes in one of the chimpanzees, Caesar, and raises it much like a child alongside primatologist. Caesar is taken from his home and is imprisoned in an ape sanctuary. Caesar uses his increased intelligence to break out of the sanctuary and return home to steal more of the drug. He gives the drug to the rest of the chimpanzees in the sanctuary. The more intelligent apes break out of the sanctuary and flee to a nearby forest to be free, defeating the police forces of the city. Rodman finds Caesar and tries to take him home but Caesar replies in an audible voice "Caesar IS home."
