Description

The listing, Family Tree Research Genealogy Starting Point has ended.

Genealogy has been my hobby for twenty plus years, I have researched my own family back to the 1500's.

This auction is for online research into your family tree, up to three hours of my time.

The auction winner will tell me as much as they know of the family they want to research, and I do the rest and send a written report.

First, you should gather together all the info you have on the family you want me to research. Where did they live in 1930 ? What year were they born ? What were the names of the family members? Do you know if they were born in the same place they lived in 1930, or were they from somewhere else? Why 1930? Because 1930 is the most recent census I can search. Newer ones are not available yet due to privacy laws. And the census is the best place to identify the particular family you are researching - it has all the info needed to make sure you are not spinning your wheels and looking at the wrong person or family. Detailed census records are available back to 1850 in the USA, and are the starting point for research. Using the facts from the census I can then locate whatever source documents may be available online.

If you don't already know your families facts from 1930, maybe you could sit down with older relatives or pick up the phone and ask them for the details. Maybe there is a family bible in your attic that holds the clues to solve the mystery.

I started my own tree by having my mother write down the facts as she knew them, chatting with the elder relations, and writing down what was recorded in the family bible.

In those dark days before the dawn of the internet, I had to trek to the State archives and pore over the records there to find my answers. It took me years to learn what can now be discovered in a few hours on the net.

Satisfaction guaranteed. Feel free to ask questions.

The photo is the home of my fifth great grandpa, by the way.

This is a neat idea, but I don't have all that info, both parents have passed on, but I liked, watching & fanned : ))

Their marriage license or birth certificates would get you started. Maybe an uncle or a cousin could help.
