Exp 04/2018
Chia seeds are tiny, edible.
You don't need to dig a hole to bury them. Lightly ruffle an area of your weed-free garden with a rake or, if you only have a few seeds and are spacing them carefully, simply loosen the earth with your fingers. Sprinkle a few seeds over the soil and rub gently to cover them.
Chia seeds can also germinate successfully in pots. If you want to start your chia plants indoors or close to your garden tap, sprinkle the seeds lightly in your pot and water regularly. When the sprouts are about three inches tall, they are ready for transplanting.
Chia seeds are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, which help to raise HDL cholesterol. HDL is the "good" cholesterol that protects against heart attack and stroke. Chia seeds are also rich in antioxidants, and they provide fiber, iron, and calcium.
How to prepare edible chia seeds to be use in any drink, smoothy, soup, hot or cold beverage.
Start by mixing ¼ cup chia seeds and 1 cup of water, stir after 60 minutes or so, cover the container and place in the refrigerator. That's it. The seeds will turn into a gel that is the consistency of pudding or custard. Let it soak overnight and it is ready to use. On yogurt, oatmeal, milk shakes, lemon water, tea, soups, etc.
