Description

The listing, BEAUTIFUL COIN SILVER BERRY SPOON has ended.

Up for bids is a very nice what I believe to be a berry spoon. It is a little over six inches long. The bowl part is 1and1/2 inches at its widest. The handle I know is silver, this part is 3 inches long. The bowl part I am not so sure for it's not marked but has wonderful gold plating.I take fairly good photos but not a chance I could get the tiny markings, but took pictures anyway. There are markings on both sides of the spoon near where the handle meets the bowl section:one side is marked with a capital HG,while the other side is marked 875,which I think is actually a higher silver content than coin.I was told this could be either from Great Britain or a dutch piece and from before 1900.Not sure.Anyway,if you have any questions please feel free to ask. Thanks for looking and good luck!!

Nice is it a "find" or a family treasure?

Thanks,No,not a family piece.I picked this up at a local antique shop about 8 yrs ago.The silver had(and still has)a really nice warmth to it so I purchased it.

I looked it up and the .875 means 87.5% pure silver, while sterling is 92.5% silver. the HG mark is most likely that of Henry S. Gallery who was active in the second half of the 19th century, which would be 1850 to 1900. He was an English silversmith. bidding and fanned.
