the two differant types are type one which you have here and is a regular nickel and type 2 which is made of 35% silver and was minted part way through 1942 and until 1945 to help preserve nickel for the war effort the silver nickels of the war years are identified by a large P,D or S above Monticello on the reverse if you look in your coin guides i think youll find the type one a little more desirable and higher priced in higher grades probably due to less being saved hope i answered your question again nice auction
