Pysanky Eggs
Pysanky are part of an ancient Ukrainian tradition of decorating whole eggshells with elaborate geometric patterns and pictures. Although it may seem improbable, these eggs are real.
Pysanky are made by puncturing the shell in two places and carefully removing the liquid contents of the egg by blowing them out. Using the hot wax pen the artists writes a pattern, dips the pysanky into dyes, lets then dry and continues the process several times, producing colorful overlapping patterns on the shell of the pysanky eggs.
Folk cultures around the world consider the pysanky a symbol of springtime and rebirth. It's a wonderful gift of life with a deep meaning! The book I am sending with this is old, but I sent it because it has many good pic's and supplies in them . I always ordered all my supplies on line from this place, although there are many places on line. It's a very fun hobby or passtime. I had to quit because my eyes are not very good any more for detailed work and my hands aren't steady enough. Everyone in my family was making them. I do want to caution you ... these are NOT easter egg dyes. NOT food coloring either. you apply your design with bees wax using a kiskas I sent heat over a candle flame. Theres lots of places on line to get exact directions to make these. I never drained my eggs they were completely raw from begining to end. So much fun time never passed so quickly in my life as when working on these.
