Ice PlantDorotheanthus bellidiformis
This native to South Africa is unequaled for its sheer brilliance of color in dry and sunny locations. It is a very attractive ground-hugging annual with reddish, succulent stems and leaves, both covered in transparent shiny dots, which give rise to the common name of Ice Plant, as the plant looks as if it is sprinkled with ice crystals. Its shiny daisy-like blooms are lovely shades of pink, yellow, white and rose, which produces a glowing display in full sun beds, borders and rock gardens. Plants form low-growing mounds 3-6" in height and bloom from early summer to fall.
