This DVD boxed set features three of Gene Kelly's best films, On the Town, An American in Paris, and Singin' in the Rain, his most famous film. Also included is Robert Trachtenberg's 2002 documentary about Kelly's life and movies, Gene Kelly: Anatomy of a Dancer. Narrated by Stanley Tucci and utilizing interviews with Kelly's family, costars, and biographer, as well as archival interviews with Gene, this documentary is well done and very interesting. An American in Paris and Singin' in the Rain won the Oscar for Best Picture in consecutive years, and On the Town made history as the first musical to be shot on location. Its opening sequence, "New York, New York," is one of the most exhilerating moments in film. My only complaint with this boxed set is that many Gene Kelly fans, like myself, will already own these three musicals. After hearing about Gene Kelly: Anatomy of a Dancer in this collection, I bought that documentary separately. All four films in the set are available individually. If you don't have these movies already, I encourage you to buy them in this boxed set, because they are all excellent. You'll be able to enjoy them for years.
