The listing, *Hand Carved* ESKIMO SCRIMSHAW STRING TIE *Signed by Artist* Diomede, Alaska} Vintage - Rare Find!! has ended.
This hand carved Native Alaskan Ivory Scrimshaw was created by native Alaskan, Ron Ozenna and his wife Rebecca at their home in the fishing village of Diomede Island.
I actually communicated with his son, Ronald Jr., in November of this year (2017). He was thrilled to see pictures of his parents work and said they would feel very proud. The walrus is very special and respected by these people. I don't understand much, but I do know how special this piece is.
A federal act in 1972 states it is legal to own or sell items made of Walrus tusk if they were made by a native Alaskan while in the state or islands of Alaska. This item meets all of those requirements. I encourage you to check this out for yourself.
THIS IS A LEGAL LISTING.
.
Winner will get the exact item shown in the pictures. The carving measures about 2.5" and about .25" in thickness. Each end of the rope tie are 1" stone pendants (I think, because they are quite heavy.) I don't know what the metal clamp is made of nor how it is attached to the reverse of the carving.
This is an absolutely ONE OF A KIND work of Native Alaskan art. Would be an excellent Christmas gift for any art lover!
