Description

The listing, The Americana Collection - Liberty Falls - Liberty Falls Courthouse #AH39 has ended.

The town of Liberty Falls captures the energy of the growing American Frontier. With each new building and home " constructed " in Liberty Falls, more of the history of this delightful Colorado town unfolds. We witness the joys and sorrows...triumphs and disappointments...of bankers, miners, restaurateurs...adventures and renegades...entertainers and story spinners. Come with us on a journey back to those frontier days - when anything seemed possible and each day brought a new opportunity for adventure.

Up for auction is the Liberty Falls Courthouse #AH39 in the series collection.

It certainly was one of the more majestic looking structures in town, this three -story courthouse that contained a main trial area, a separate office for Judge William Scott and his assistant, John Davis, and several other offices for town records. There was even a fine assembly room where the Town Council could meet each Thursday evening.

Justice was handed out by Judge Scott, who had been appointed by the territorial governor to an almost lifetime position. Judge Scott heard any and all disputes ranging from land claims to civil disturbances to criminal actions for thievery.

County records were stored in wooden crates up in the third floor tower. But disaster struck in 1896, when a fire roared through most of the Courthouse and destroyed almost every record in storage. It took Records Clerk Deanna Whitestone almost three years to redo all of those essential deeds, files, and court records.
