Up for auction is the Wooden Nickel Inn #AH42 in the series collection.
For those who needed lodging just for a day, week or month - Liberty Falls boasted the hospitality of The Wooden Nickel Inn. Oh, if those walls could talk ! Why: Horace Greeley, " Go West, Young Man, Go West " spent a few nights there, as did just about every singer who appeared at the Liberty Falls Opera House ! On the nights before a performance, Mrs. Johnson, who runs the Inn, could be seen scurrying about the halls with freshly ironed costumes and crinolines for Lillian or Jenny or another beloved star !.
No one in Liberty Falls ever will forget the week that Buffalo Bill ( of Wild West Show fame ) spent at the Wooden Nickel - why, he spent an hour or so just about every evening after supper rocking in the old parlor rocker and realing fellow lodgers with tales of his Pony Express days, buffalo hunting, scouting and performing. What a character ! But not every guest in the inviting two and one-half story Inn was famous. Some were weary miners' families, traveling government officials - just about anyone with the price of room and board who relished a nice, clean bed and some of Mrs. Johnson's hot porridge in the morning !
