German 1944 Airmail & Surcharge Stamps!
There is a complete set of three MINT (hinge mark on backside) in this small lot of German stamps. The red, the blue and green stamp, reading: GrossDeutsches Reich. You can see how each has a PLUS sign between two numbers, making these three stamps "surcharge" stamps.
Green: 6 + 4
(Airport scene)
Red: 12 + 8
(Seaplane)
Blue: 42 + 108
(Plane seen from above)
These three (see photos 2, 3 & 4) are the 25th anniversary of German air mail. The surtax (the second number after the PLUS sign) was for the National Culture Fund which supported patronage for the arts - the purchase and exhibition of art and propaganda.).
Notice the bird symbol inside the circle on the left side of the green stamp? That icon survives today as a symbol of German Air Post, now notice, that same symbol on both the blue and red stamp. Cool huh? LOL.....
I have included a snapshot from the Scott Catalog regarding the three surcharge stamps (see last photo)
Auction ends just a bit after 7:00 PM, California time.
Thank you and happy bidding!
