It has an open back. It may be ivory or hard plastic. Not sure.

I have a cameo ring that I got for my 25th bday. ITs past on from grandmother to grand daughter in my family. mine is from the early 1880's. Cameos are rare and beautiful. Mine is worth a lot of money. good luck to everyone
