In May 1940, Germany advanced into France, trapping Allied troops on the beaches of Dunkirk. Under air and ground cover from British and French forces, troops were slowly methodically evacuated from the beach using every serviceable naval and civilian vessel that could be found. All of Dunkirk’s extra features are found on a dedicated Special Features Blu-ray. They run to around 1 hour 50 minutes, and are split into four sections - Creation, Land, Air, Sea, Conclusion - each of which has its own group of small featurette sections. They can be played as one long ‘movie’, or accessed by section. Basically the entire thing is essential viewing. The documentaries provide a really fascinating backdrop to both the historical events that inspire the film, the film’s themes, and the challenges and scale of the production.
